The pattern is only one part of a wall-panel system. A convincing installation depends on how modules start and stop, how seams align, what happens at corners and openings, and whether the wall behind the panels is ready. Those decisions belong in the scope before fabrication.

Design the whole elevation
Begin with a dimensioned wall elevation showing doors, corners, ceilings, base, outlets, switches, thermostats, sprinklers, millwork and mounted equipment. Then lay out the panel rhythm across the complete surface. Starting with one attractive module and repeating it blindly often creates narrow cuts at the most visible edge.
Decide which lines should align with adjacent cabinetry, doors, ceilings or furniture. The eye reads those relationships before it notices the species name.

Resolve substrate and attachment
Panels can be applied to different substrates and support conditions, but the assembly must match the design, panel weight and site. Identify blocking, drywall condition, furring, adhesives, fasteners and access needs. If panels must remain removable, that requirement affects seams and attachment.
Do not assume the existing wall is flat. Field verification can reveal bows, transitions and penetrations that need scribe zones or a corrected substrate.

Plan every edge and penetration
Corners, end returns, door casings, baseboards and ceiling transitions need a defined detail. Outlets and controls should be centered or intentionally related to the pattern where possible. Unplanned field cuts can destroy the rhythm and expose unfinished material.
For commercial work, coordinate panel thickness with door clearances, egress hardware, signage, wall protection and other trades.

Be precise about acoustic language
A wood slat appearance does not automatically provide tested acoustic performance. Sound behavior depends on the full assembly, including spacing, backing, cavity and tested configuration. If a project requires a rating or documented performance, specify the tested system and evidence rather than relying on a visual description.

Approve a representative sample
The approval should show actual species or substrate, cut, stain or paint, sheen, groove or slat profile, edge treatment and representative seam. For natural wood, agree on the acceptable range rather than treating one small sample as a promise that every board will be identical.

Are all slat wood panels acoustic?
No. Acoustic performance depends on the complete tested assembly, not the slat appearance alone. Ask for documentation when performance is required.
Should panels be measured before or after drywall?
Final field conditions should be verified at the stage defined by the shop and project schedule. Substrate readiness and adjacent finishes affect final dimensions and installation.
Can outlets and switches be integrated into the pattern?
Usually, when locations are known early and coordinated in the elevation and module layout before fabrication.
